[p=21, 2, left]The list of Oscar winners is usually[b]dominated[/b] by American films and actors but 2009 has seen a more[b]international flavour[/b] to the ceremony.[/p][p=21, 2, left]British actors and actresses have long awaited such [b]global recognition[/b]. Kate Winslet was nominated six times for an Oscar before she eventually won the Best Actress award at this year’s ceremony.[/p][p=21, 2, left]Slumdog Millionaire lived up to its status as a global success and movie[b]phenomenon[/b]. The low-budget movie [b]swept the board[/b] winning eight Oscars, including Best Director and Best Picture.[/p][p=21, 2, left]The movie, which documents the life of a young Indian boy after he wins a TV game show, has definitely helped to [b]raise the profile[/b] of the British film industry.[/p][p=21, 2, left]Summarising the [b]national feeling[/b], British Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, issued a statement saying "Britain is showing it has the [b]talent[/b] to lead the world."[/p][p=21, 2, left]A [b]spokesman[/b] for the UK Film Council agreed with Mr Brown’s comments but added that many of this year’s movie winners have [b]benefited[/b] from[b]national funding[/b].[/p][p=21, 2, left]"With our [b]lottery funding[/b] for Man on Wire and The Duchess, and Film4's support for Slumdog Millionaire, last night proved that government support for film can deliver success on a [b]global scale[/b]," he said.[/p][p=21, 2, left]Addressing the growing [b]fervour[/b] for British film, Slumdog director Danny Boyle has [b]urged[/b] people to remain calm and to be [b]realistic[/b] after his remarkable Oscar success.[/p][p=21, 2, left]"You’ve got to be careful of claiming that this marks the [b]renaissance[/b] of the British film industry. It is one film," he said.[/p][/size][/font][/color]
