Why The Poor Get Poorer
1 The poor tend to live in areas with poor prospects or adverse conditions2 Poor people have less power to control their lives or protect themselves or their property
3 Poor families can be devastated by natural disasters, illness or disability of other co-dependents
4 The poor tend to pay more due to lack of bargaining power
5 The poor cannot afford the best advice and services
6 Poor workers tend to be stuck in non-specialised, low value work
7 Education and healthcare costs are high hurdles for the poor
8 The poor are more prone to risky, criminal and dangerous activities
9 The poor find it hard to access credit
10 Poor families tend to have more children (to feed and clothe, educate etc.)
