One of the most interesting of all studies is the study of words and words' origins.(1)________________________________________________.Again, a word from one language may pass into other languages and develop a new meaning. The word "etiquette",which is of French origin and originally meant a label, or a sign, passed into Spanish and kept its original meaning. So in Spanish the word "etiquette" today is used to indicate the small tags, which a store attaches to a suit, a dress or a bottle.(2)___________________________________.It late became the custom to write directions on small cards of "etiquettes" as to how visitors should dress themselves and act during an important ceremony at the royal court. Thus, the word "etiquette" began to indicate a system of correct manners for people to follow. With this, the word passed into English.Consider the word "breakfast"."To fast" is to go for some period of time without eating. Thus, in the morning, after many hours during the night without food, one breaks one's fast.Consider the everyday English expression "Good-bye".Many years ago, people would say to each other on parting: "God be with you".(3)________________________________________________.

Each language is composed of several earlier languages and a word of a language can sometimes be traced back 2 and more different languages to their origins.
The word "etiquette" in France however gradually developed a different meaning.
As this was repeated over and over millions times,a gradually became shorten to "Good-bye"
