Syndey got admitted to a school she was not looking forward to. But as the rule goes, one has to compromise with life. So eventually she ended up being in one of its alien classes. She thought she would be able to somehow exist without being noticed and then leave this territory. But it did not happen so.
Syndey soon made a prominent place for herself. She was loved by all the teachers and was a shining star in Manchester High.
It was not until a day she and her friends sat down during a free period and talked about those old days that she came to know of their reaction when she stepped into their lives. She could bet she saw hostility in their eyes, but they never exposed it. That day it was rather a shock for her to know their hatred was far beyond imagination.
" I felt so disgusted at you, I wanted to kick you out of the class!"- Martha confessed. Wow! That was quite a fury!
"I was jealous of you so I always found faults with your attitude." - stated Maryam.
"I heard that you had failed in board exams previously and so had come to this school to repeat it. Because you
had the answers to all of teachers questions, it only supported my belief."- Roxana took her turn. Oh boy!
" When I mocked Angie- the first girl about why she couldn't keep up with her position after you came to our class, she snarled at me saying you were elder to her and so had better capabilities."- said Jasie.
Now, her age has always been a big issue in Manchester High but she had never known it to be the explanation of her good grades.
Syndey tried to close the topic. With time her heart felt heavier. If she had gotten even the gist of their
hatred she would wish the ground gulped her in. And she was somewhat grateful that she never did. Really,
human nature 'is' a dilemma.
It was those lonely hours she tried to picture. No one knew about her void within. Life was an open battle with everyone challenging her. They say they hated her guts. If only she had one friend.' Oh! How she longed for a little support, but was delivered cold shoulder.
I'm sure all of us, at some point in our lives have been a Syndey. And we well know what it is like to be lonely out there. So next time you intend on repulsive action, first put yourself in your victim's shoes. If you find yourself in her, would you not think twice?
