put的意思和用法有很多，我们最熟悉的是“放置”;可是在这句话当中我们当“说法”讲。口语中有句话是“let me put it this way,意思是”让我们这样来说吧”，句中的put与本单元标题的put意思是一样的。

对话一：
A:What is wrong with Mary?
（玛丽怎么啦？）

B:Simply put,she's in trouble at school.
（简单的说，是在学校惹了些麻烦。）
A：What did she do?
（她干了些什么事？）
B：She pulled the fire alarm.
(她没事去拉火警的警铃。）

（真的是她吗？）
B:Yes,I don't know what she was thinking.
（是的，这不知道她到底怎么想的！）
