Chip in 就是大家出钱的意思，这跟以前介绍过的 pass the hat 有点类似。但 pass the hat 指的多半是大家自己出自己的，而 chip in 则是说每个人出一点钱，把这个钱拿去做一件事。可能是买礼物啦，或是分担一些共同的费用。例如有一次我去别人家玩，结果很不幸的门不知道为什么被锁住了，大家都进不住，这时就有人说：OK. Let's chip in some money to call the locksmith.
