Martha then entered the room to announce that lunch was ready.

"I don't want the lunch!" my uncle shouted, "Now leave me!"

“我不要吃午饭！”我叔叔叫道，“让我自己呆会儿！”

Martha left the room immediately. I hurried afer her, and into the dining room to eat. I waited a few minutes. My uncle didn't come. It was the first time that he refused to come for a meal. As a loving nephew, I felt it was my duty to eat for him as well, as for myself, and I did with eagerness.

玛尔塔立即离开了房间。我慌忙跟在后面，来到饭厅用餐。我等了几分钟。我叔叔没有来。这时第一次他不愿来吃饭。作为他忠心的侄子，我觉得有义务为我自己吃，也要为他吃，这个任务我欣然完成了。

"I can't believe this!" Martha said. "Mr. Lidenbrock isn't here for the meal!"

I was finishing the last bit of lunch when I heard a loud voice. I ran from the dining room to the study immediately.
