woods to lose him one fine day.tied on to him a bell that tinkled all he way.Our ass was puffed with pride,took on conceited ways.(You understand,he'd heard
of decoration,)He quite had come to feel,his life was now the nation's!A mixed delight it is,to join the upper classes.(And that may be the same of some who
are not asses.
有一天农夫养了一头驴，这头驴把一切事情都做得很不错。连他的主人都觉得找不到合适的词语来夸耀他。一个阳光明媚的日子，主人担心驴子会在树林里走失，就给他戴了
个铃铛，丁丁当当地响了一路。驴子骄傲起来了，一副趾高气扬的神情。（要知道，关于勋章驴子也有所耳闻）他深深感到，自己的生命与国家的命运息息相关。晋升到更高级别
，复杂的欣喜之情溢于言表（有些不是驴子的家伙或许也会这样）。
I ought to tell you. till that day, they paid the ass but scant attention.But till he got his bell,he'd no complaints to mention.he'd raid the oats and
rye,and even the kitchen garden,and when he'd had his fill,go quietly away.But with the bell-I beg your pardon!Our poor distinguished friend!He scarcely and
moved a yard,the order round his neck would tinkle hard;next minute,farmer with his stick,from rye and cabbages had chased him double quick;next neighbour
heard the sound;to warn him off his land,he poked his ribs with just what came to hand.And so our poor celebrity had faded by the fall,till but for skin and
bones,there was no ass at all.
我有必要告诉你们，那天之前，其实这头驴子并没引起人们太多的注意。在他没系铃铛时，人们对他并无怨言。燕麦和黑麦他都践踏过，甚至连菜园子也糟蹋过，只是他吃饱了，就神不知鬼不觉地溜走了。但是有了铃铛后，是在抱歉得很，我们那小有名气的可怜朋友啊！他几乎没走几步远，脖子上的勋章便丁丁当当乱响一通。农夫马上便从燕麦和甘蓝地里三步并两步地追过来，手里还拎着棍子。另一家邻居听到了铃铛声，为了不让驴子进自家田地，随手抓起一样东西向他肋骨戳去。所以，到了秋天，我们这位可怜的大名人就垮了，只剩下皮包骨了，简直都不成样子了。

公众生活中，无赖就是凭借这一点，如同我们所看到的那样。当处于贫穷和卑微的地位时，他不会引起别人的注意。但是名誉之于我等恰如铃铛之于驴子，越名声显赫，就越对自己不利。 |
