1979年3月30日出生于美国纽约（4岁和母亲移居至德洲，求学过程都在德洲），拥有超龄的才华与甜美温柔的歌声。家中为音乐世家，父亲是著名的印度席塔琴演奏家Ravi Shankar。 　　15岁进入『干净灵魂美声』艾瑞卡巴度母校在达拉斯的Booker T.Washington高中主修表演及视觉艺术，在学习钢琴和表演的时候，她沉醉到了爵士乐中，从此与爵士乐结下不解之缘。 　　在连续获得Down Beat学生音乐奖96年及97年『最佳爵士歌手』音乐奖后，99年夏天，结束了在北德克萨斯的两年大学生活以后，她趁着暑假前往纽约，Norah Jones来到纽约后，纽约的音乐氛围令Norah Jones激动不已，她立刻爱上曼哈顿活力充沛的音乐环境。在这里Norah Jones开始热衷于一些出色的词曲作者的作品，也是在这里，她逐渐形成了目前爵士钢琴，创作型的风格，并开始尝试多种音乐风格的融合。后来Norah Jones和词曲作者Jesse Harris，以及贝斯手Lee Alexander组成了一支小乐队，Norah Jones在乐队中担任主唱并兼奏钢琴。 　　2000年10月Blue Note Records为他们录制了一张试音专辑《First Sessions》，Norah在专辑中尽情展示了自己的才华，在创作中她在源于爵士乐的曲调中加入了自己的激情，并用自己圆润，柔美的嗓音打动了唱片公司，于是仅过了三个月Norah Jones正式签约Blue Note Records，成为Blue Note音乐大厂中最年轻的爵士女伶。并于2002年2月26日发布了第一张专辑《Come Away With Me》。
