India was suspended by the International Olympic Committee after it warned that the Indian Olympic Association against allowing candidates facing corruption charges to contest elections. But the defiant Indian sporting body has pressed ahead with an election to choose Lalit Bhanot as secretary general. Bhanot faces graft charges in connection with the hosting of the 2010 Commonwealth Games in New Delhi.
