Alibaba's executive chairman Jack Ma has said he is open to working with Apple on mobile payments.

Ma spoke to a Wall Street Journal Digital Live conference on Monday, expressing his respect for Apple CEO Tim Cook.

Alibaba affiliate Alipay is China's largest payment service, while Apple has just debuted its mobile wallet Apple Pay this month.

Meantime, Alibaba has announced it is splitting its travel services from Taobao.com and renaming it Alitrip.

Alitrip provides a platform for individuals or agencies to offer sales of flight tickets, accommodation bookings, tours and visa-related services.

A survey by China's Internet market research agency iResearch shows China has seen an annual 40-percent surge in the use of online travel platforms, which are elbowing out traditional tourism agencies.
