重点解说：

★ I hate to ~「我很不愿意~，我很不想~」此语用于表示自己很遗憾的要提出一件令人不快或叫人惋惜的事，如I hate to say it, but you are mistaken.「我很不想说这句话，但是你误会了。」

★ nothing but ~的意思是「只不过是~，只有~ (=only)」 He drinks nothing but the best wines.「他只喝最高级的酒。」His remarks are nothing but an insult.「他的话语对人无异是种侮辱。」

★ a sob story「赚人眼泪的故事」此语带有贬义，指用来博取人家同情的一段故事，像电视的连续剧(soap opera)、赚人眼泪的小说或电影均属之。sob的意思是「啜泣」。
