if you are very young ,you can start with speaking and listening. if you are old enough to understand the literature,i suggest that you begin with reading literature books while searchinng for grammar points in the dictionary and grammar books when you cannot understand what you are reading.

I think I belong to the last type. I think your advice is good and I am using this method now.I am anxious about how to improve my reading ability.I think I have already learned enough words to cope with a paragraph,however I still can not understand it well even though I know every word in the paragraph.And I must read a sentence twice if I need to understand it .
