My husband, like many lawyers, gets late-evening phone calls, usually from someone who has been arrested. ① One night,though, the callerwas an agitated female, and a snarling male voice could be heard in the background.

“If a man leaves his wife,” the woman wanted to know,” doesn’t she get the house and furniture?” ② My husband told her he did not give leagal advice over the phone and asked her to call his office fo an appointment.

The woman heard him out and then loudly replied, “Oh, you say she also gets the car, the boat and the savings account? Thank you very much.” And triumphantly she hang up.
