I was just shopping around a new camping store down at the mall and found very useful advice on next camping trip, water filter.

it has the series of  filters made of special chemicals that drain out all the harmful bacteria.

the watering natural stream probably doesn't have poisonous chemicals in it , but it probably has dangerous bacteria from all the animals they live near the water.
