The first problem suffered by foreigners arriving here is the language. Not understanding English causes him to say all kinds of things which he don't mean. A friend asked for some fried rice with his dinner once.  He found out later that the waitress understood him to say "flied lice". Another time he was talking with an American friend about the national elections, but talked about "enational eractions" instead. Of course it embarrassed his friend, a girl.
