But with drink cans, it isn't just the recycling quota that plays a role but also the additional packaging, the cardboard. It is rare for packs like these to be so easy to handle. A packaging engineer from Hamburg designed this so-called tango pack, using much less cardboard than usual. The cans are held firmly together by a narrow plastic strip. The tango pack has another advantage: ease of unpacking is match by ease of re-packing. The design of the cardboard packaging with its narrow polypropene strip facilitates the collection of empty cans. And the more empty cans that can be collected for recycling, the better. The plastic strips and the cardboard are also easy to recycle, all cleanly separated from each other. |
