Shanghai blueprints its grand power project
Shanghai will spend 25 billion yuan (US billion) in the next five years in building more power stations to help meet the city's increasing demand of the electricity
consumption, Youth Daily reported today.
The plan is mapped out amid the worry that the city will be receive less power support from the East China Area Power Network in the next few years.
The maximum of power is expected to climb to 1.5 million kilowatts, with some 9.82 million kilowatts generated by local plants and the rest purchased from the
neighboring provinces.
Officials from the Shanghai Electric Co. predicted the city will be in short of electricity of about 1.5 million kilowatts each year in the summer seasons, because
the provinces nearby will consume more power.
The record of the city's power consumption hit 10.9 million kilowatts this year, 420,000 kilowatts more than last year.
Officials said 10 billion yuan worth of new facilities will be set up by the end of next year.
