Meaning:
When you go hat in hand, you are asking somebody for something, especially money, in a very polite and respectful way, which makes you seem less important.
Examples:
1. A: Do you like Lucy?
B: No! She often goes hat in hand to her classmates.
2. A: Why don’t you ask your brother for money?
B: There’s no way that I will go hat in hand to him.
