George Washington was born into a world where slavery was an accepted part of life. When his father died in 1743, Washington - at the age of 11 - inherited 10 slaves.
在乔治·华盛顿出生的那个时代，人们是接受奴隶制的。就在他的父亲去世的那一年——1743年，11岁的华盛顿就继承到了10个奴隶。

When the nation's first president died in 1799, more than 300 slaves lived on his Mount Vernon estate. This year, those slave quarters, first opened to the public in 1962, went through an extensive archaeological analysis and restoration.
1799年，当这位美国第一任总统去世时，维农山庄园里已有超过300个奴隶在靠这个庄园赖以为生。而今年，人们已对这个于1962年对外开放的曾今那些奴隶的住所进行了一次大规模的考古分析和修复。

The renovated quarters are two one-story wings added to the Mount Vernon greenhouse shortly after Washington became president.

Each one is divided into two small workrooms, and two sleeping areas, one for men and another for women.
