Here’s a news story that will have the executives at cosmetic companies dancing in the streets: women would rather eat cheaper food than spend less on beauty care products!
Cosmeticsdesign.com reports on a recent poll that shows even in the midst of this recession, women don’t want to cut back(削减)on spending for cosmetics. Instead, they’d rather save money by buying less expensive food items. The poll(n.投票,民意调查), sponsored by feelingunique.com, was conducted among 1,000 UK women.
Fashion over food
According to the article, almost 30% of the respondents(n.应答者) said they’d rather eat less than buy fewer ‘essential’ beauty products(would rather…than宁愿…而不愿) . Their definition of “essential” included everyday items like toothpaste, soap and shampoo as well as more indulgent(adj.放纵的) products like make-up and body treatments. While this study was done in the UK, a similar study in the US in September 2008 yielded(v.生产) similar results.
While 67 per cent would switch to less expensive brands for eggs and milk, only 30 per cent said they would be willing to turn to cheaper cosmetics.
