The answer to this question depend on whether we believe the figure represents a man or a God.
If he is a God, then he is surely pondering the creation of universe. But this awesome person is too lifelike to be a God. He belongs to the world, not the Heavens. Maybe he is thinking a creation. His thoughts, however, are of the creation of art. The Thinker represents the artist.作者: liziming8292011 时间: 2012-7-18 20:17

It is possible that Rodin meant The Thinker to be a self portrait. He was an egotistical person. Some rare people are so filled with egotism that they imagine that they speak for all mankind. Rodin had this sort of ambition. He was also a precise and even calculating artist. He kept his thoughts about the world confined within the familiar contours of the human body.作者: wall2015 时间: 2015-11-24 18:16
