A Dream of Red Mansions described also as a myth in terms of politics, history, culture and aesthetics, this is arguably the most exquisite masterpiece in Chinese literature. Cao Xueqin, the author, started his masterwork in desperately poverty stricken circumstance. Unfortunately, he died at the age of 28, leaving his work unfinished. Cao Xueqin was haughty by nature, but an extremely talented literary man. His friend Dun Cheng compared his poems to those of the Tang Dynasty poet Li He, descbribing them as bold, solid and having the cold glitter of a knife blade.
The selection of actors and actresses, from the very beginning of reproduction, has been remarkable since the decision was made to adhere to the fully individualized characters depicted in the novel. The classic reproduction of the film reflects the creative styles and tastes in the era. Two decades later, it is expectantly to see what the global standard’s role-selection would bring us?
Remarks from the public, on one hand, give a positive reaction towards the reproduction’s success on visual arts and representation, at the same time, the sweeping participation is depicted as a dreamlike carnival of entertainment.
On the other hand, the public’s brickbats attacked the specious way of its inducements to a mercantile result. Those who may measure up to the original characters in the story, may not be drawn to this interpretation of the book ,in light to this, many people feel that the movie will not have the broad public appeal that the producers are seeking.
