晴窗早觉爱朝曦，竹外秋声渐作威。

命仆安排新暖阁，呼童熨贴旧寒衣。

叶浮嫩绿酒初熟，橙切香黄蟹正肥。

容菊满圆皆可羡，赏心从此莫相违。




Winter Scene

Waking early I like to look out of the window on morn gleams.

Yet the autumn sound beyond the bamboos seem to be a grim sign.

I bid a servant make preparations for a new warm attic

And tell a boy to iron out the old wadded garments of mine.

Like bamboo-leaves the ripe wine has a color of tender green.

With cut oranges’ fragrance and hue the fat crabs can satisfy.

Admirable are the garden hibiscus and chrysanthemums.

Let’s spare each moment to enjoy their beauty without a goodbye.

Winter Scene

I love to wake to morning light beneath a frosted window

the sound of fall growing louder in the bamboo grove outside

I tell a serving maid to heat my new pavilion

and call a young attendant to iron last winter’s clothes

the leaves are green and tender the wine is freshly made

the oranges sweet and golden the crabs are truly fat

and mallows and chrysanthemums lovely in the garden

may I never part from such delights again
