In the latest effort to eradicate child sex abuse in the Roman Catholic Church, Pope Benedict has told bishops around the world to report promptly all priests suspected of paedophilia to local police._________________________. A BBC's correspondent at the Vatican says that since widespread reports of abuse first emerged, the Church has often appeared more interested in protecting priests than punishing those responsible.
