The US military today rejected claims by a UN committee that hundreds of children have been killed by US attacks and airstrikes in Afghanistan in the past 5 years. The Geneva based UN Committee on the Rights of the Child said the children's deaths were[quoting now] "due notably to the reported lack of precautionary measures and indiscriminate use of force" [end of quote]. The headquarters of the US forces in Afghanistan said in a statement today that the UN committee's concerns are categorically unfounded. Pakistan officials say 10 people were killed, more than 20 wounded in a bomb blast near a market in Pakistan's northwestern tribal area.
