这个句子是从新闻上摘抄的。我觉得用child也是可以的，child泛指孩子，baby特指婴儿。"by the time she has a child", 译成“她有孩子的时候”，跟前面的mother对应，也就是“生孩子的时候”了。你认为呢？还有bear a child/give birth to sb，都可以表示生孩子，产一婴儿
