《母女情深》 本片是一部温馨小品，旨在以人生酸甜苦辣来诠释母女复杂亲情关系，当年以黑马姿态赢得影片情节感人，从幽默到严肃，风格逐渐过渡。本片是詹姆斯·布鲁克斯的编导处女作。1996年的续集《常在我心间延续篇：动人季节》（又译《亲密关系1997》， The Evening Star）讲述奶奶和三个外孙的故事。整个影片其实不止反映了母女之情，还有夫妻之情，情人之情（母亲，女儿，女婿和他们各自的情人们），朋友之情（女儿和Patsy，母亲和家佣Rosey），祖孙之情，...几乎包括一切亲情，爱情，和友情，只不过以母女关系为主线罢了。现在看来翻译成《母女情深》过于狭义，不如直译《爱的含义》更贴切。
影片中宇航员半夜接到母亲的邀请电话去母亲卧室那一段，真是妙。母亲说请宇航员来欣赏Renoir的画，只不过这副画是在卧室。等宇航员答应后，母亲忙着挑一件半透睡袍，调暗灯光，精心制造气氛，而Nicholson刚游完泳，敞着怀穿着还滴水的短裤小偷般探头进去，和母亲的高贵形成鲜明对比，实在让人发笑。母亲要关掉灯，宇航员说他喜欢开灯睡觉，母亲当即回应“那你就回家去开灯吧。”结果还是两人一起掀被上床。整部影片除了最后女儿去世凄惨一点以外，总体来说还是比较幽默的。
Garrett Breedlove: I like the lights on.
Garrett Breedlove:我喜欢开着灯。
Aurora Greenway: Then go home and turn them on.
Aurora Greenway: 那么就回家去然后把灯都打开。
