BBC News with Marion Marshall. The United Nations says the damage caused by typhoon Haiyan in the Philippines will require a huge international response. The UN says that the local officials estimated that the storm killed 10,000 people in a single city Tacloban. Nick Bryant reports from the UN in New York. ________________________________ Almost 10 million people have been affected and 660,000 displaced from their flattened communities. The UN has described the response in the Philippines government as very impressive, but clearly much more needs to be done on the ground. Response teams have focused on providing purified water, food, shelter and medical support for the survivors, while an urgent priority is to bury dead bodies because of the risk of spreading disease.
