Cold Isolation among Modern People
Nowadays, the phenomenon of globalization is becoming more and more popular, but it seems that the information-share doesn’t make the world smaller. Modern people have a feeling that they are becoming more and more distant from each other and a feeling of isolation among people exists everywhere.
It is undeniable that the relation between people becomes more and more chilly. Modern people live under a greater tension compared with past days. They are busy in struggling for many things such as continuous promotion in job, bigger house in life, good education for children and so on, so they have less time to communicate with each other. More and more people are living in urban areas, where life is in a quick rhythm. In virtue of fierce competition, city dwellers have to be hardworking in order to keep up with the steps of city life. Weighty pressure prevents them of a casual way of life. Everyone is busy in his own things all the time and the love and care for others disappear.
Moreover, living in apartments in different blocks, people are isolated from each other. It is not convenient for them to meet each other freely. In some sense, life is cruel. Even living in apartments of the same building, the warm care between neighbors become rare, what people care is confined into their little apartment. It is not unwonted that neighbors regard each other as strangers, though they live adjoiningly for a long time. So maybe I shouldn’t feel surprising when I heard that Zhang Ailing, my favorite authoress, died in her apartment lonely and her death was found days later. It seems that the cold competition, the cold cement buildings and the mechanic city pace make people more and more cold-blooded. Modern people would rather entertain themselves in the way of watching TV programs or VCD staying at home off job than meeting and talking to others. Modern people have few chances or avoid such chances unconscious to meet each other and thus a feeing of isolation arises.
The wide use of telephone and overwhelming emergence of the Internet prevent modern people from communicate each other face to face quite often. In the past, meeting and changing the recourses is a fundamental way to get information. However, today just staying at home, people can know clearly what is happening in the world. And nowadays the way people send regards to each other is not write letters or send postcards. The icy E-mail substitutes the traditional ways. Modern people can simply send an email or make a phone call to send good wishes in a few minutes, so this convenient way prevail in life of modern people, However, sitting before the computer screen is not the same thing as meeting each other, sitting together and talking to each other, Surely, utilizing Internet and telephone modern people can save time, but meanwhile, they lose the pleasure of writing and communicating with each other aspectantly. In some sense, the development of information technology make people mechanic.
The development of society inevitably brings the side effect, but if this development must based on the chilly isolation among people, I think this price is too high. The science and technology should serve for people, and the relationship of human beings should be prominent is society all the time. Couldn’t we cherish the warmth between people?
