Though he had always enjoyed singing during his childhood in Cleveland, OH, Joshua Radin had never intended to be a musician. He studied drawing and painting in college, and only after stints working in a gallery, as an art teacher, and as a screenwriter did he decide to give songwriting a try. He played a piece he wrote, "Winter," for friend Zach Braff, who liked it so much he got the song onto Scrubs, the television show he was on. After fans began to request more of his music, Radin decided to seriously pursue it as a career, and soon he signed to Columbia Records, which released his debut album, We Were Here, in 2006.
Songwriting is a very personal process for Joshua Radin; his songs capture the listener and keep them entranced from beginning to end. He's been compared to other acts such as Nick Drake, Simon & Garfunkel, Elliot Smith. Each moment can become a snapshot in time generated by a specific creative spark for this upcoming artist -- whose hit song "Winter" was recently featured on the NBC television sit-com "Scrubs".
Joshua began his artistic pursuits at an early age with art, acting and music. He started on his musical path with songwriters like Lennon and McCartney, and is currently likened to writers like Elliot Smith and Bob Dylan. His worldwide exposure garnered interest from thousands of fans who downloaded "Winter" and purchased his CD entitled: "First Between 3rd & 4th".
Based out of L.A., Josh's music treads the thin line between sappy and sincere exquisitely. His arrangements put an emphasis almost entirely on the acoustic guitar, with occassional string appearances, and female vocal harmonies (courtesy of Priscilla Ahn). His influences include all of the requisite forbears of the genre, and occasionally these influences appear in the music in a very tangible way. |
